Just a quick update to advise that at our meeting tonight we discussed with our Chairman David Adams about his unfortunate resignation from Chairman of the Association. This is due to powers beyond his control. He has thoroughly enjoyed his time as Chairman and will still be a very active member of our community where he can. A new up to date newsletter detailing our recent activities and our forthcoming plans will be coming out shortly. All enquiries / posts / emails will continue as normal.
Thank you David Adams for all your hard work over the past few years.

Please be aware that a van was broken into sometime between late last night and early this morning (Friday, 3 June/Saturday, 4 June).
The vehicle was accessed using either a master key or some other device which allowed the offender to open the door without having to 'break in'.
A sat-nav was stolen from the vehicle which was parked on the Grosvenor Way/Winding Mill South car park.
All residents are urged to be mindful of what is left in vehicles overnight and when unattended, even if contents are hidden within the vehicle, as was the case with this sat-nav.
Should you see anything suspicious please contact the police on 101. If you see an offence being committed, please contact the police on 999. Please also notify the residents association so that we can warn other residents.

You may have read recently about the planning application for 14 apartments to be built on the green land at the Thorns island end of Caledonia.
We have been contacted by concerned residents in Caledonia to both ascertain our view and see whether action can be taken to object to the development.
The view of the Caledonia Residents Association Committee is, provisionally, that we object to the building of the apartments on the basis of additional traffic/congestion at the junction and on Caledonia. However, this is a provisional objection based on any feedback from residents within the area in which we serve.
It is our intention to visit every house on Caledonia personally, to establish their views, as they will be affected more than anybody else.
We will also be carrying out other initiatives to support our provisional view.
Can we ask that any views are sent to us as soon as possible, in order that we may undertake the necessary work.

Spring Clean by the Caledonia Residents Association
With Sunday, 20 March being the first day of Spring, the Committee and residents of the Caledonia Residents Association did a litter pick of their estate on Saturday, 19 March, with the help of Deputy Mayor Councillor Mo Hanif.
Its been six months since the last litter pick was carried out and Chairman David Adams commented, “The estate was in need of a Spring clean. For the sake of a couple of hours work, a number of residents came along, as well as the Deputy Mayor and helped tidy the estate”.
Since the new Committee commenced their work in October 2014, several litter picks across the estate have taken place and the Committee, working with Dudley Council, have also arranged for more litter bins to be placed strategically around the estate. David added, “Despite the litter bins, some people still think its acceptable to drop litter, and worse, fly tip rubbish on the estate”. Details of people fly tipping are passed to the council and the police for enforcement action to commence.
The Committee and a group of around 20 residents, which included about 10 children collected 31 bags of rubbish, a mattress, a mattress spring, a vacuum and a wok! David commented, “Whilst I can possibly understand that somebody could accidently drop litter and not be aware, it begs belief that somebody could dispose of a mattress and not think that it would blight the area. Who do they think is going to collect it and tidy the area?”
The weather on Saturday, between 1.00pm and 3.00pm when the litter pick took place wasn’t as good as the previous weekend, so Committee members provided hot drinks for all volunteers as well as Easter eggs for the children who helped. Additionally, all children were given a free pin-badge which states “I support Caledonia Residents Association”, for them to wear with pride to show their support in helping to make the estate a tidier place.

A second Speed Awareness Campaign was staged by Committee members on Saturday, 20 February, which saw 40 vehicles having their speed recorded.
Of the 40 vehicles, 17 (42.5%) were travelling at under 30mph. The remaining 23 (57.5%) were travelling between 31mph and 40mph, with the highest recorded speed being 40mph.
The Committee have forwarded their results to the police and asked that 7 motorists, whose speed was between 35mph and 40mph are sent a warning letter.
The Committee will be deploying their radar gun again to hopefully, further confirm that recorded speed along Caledonia is reducing.

In response to complaints from residents, the Committee conducted a Speed Awareness campaign on Saturday, 30 January, between 10.00 - 11.00. This involved the Committee using a radar speed gun, borrowed from a local Councillor to record the speed of passing vehicles.
Of the 110 vehicles for which their speed was recorded, the follow results were noted:
19 vehicles were travelling at 30mph or less (within the speed limit) (17.27%)
78 vehicles were travelling between 30 - 40mph (70.91%)
12 vehicles were travelling between 40 - 50mph (10.91%)
1 vehicle was travelling at over 50mph (0.91%)
The average speed of all vehicles recorded was 35.23mph, with the one vehicle which was travelling at more than 50mph was recorded as 52mph.
Details of all vehicles recorded as having exceeded the speed limit have been passed to the police, with a request that those exceeding 40mph are sent a warning letter, advising them to be aware of their speed in future.
Photos of the campaign are shown below, which included a visit by Councillor Mo Hanif, Ward Councillor and Deputy Mayor:

Please see the below article, published in yesterday's Express & Star.
http://www.expressandstar.com/news/2015/11/24/rat-run-drivers-hit-double-speed-limit/
We hope to both demonstrate that there is an issue for the police/council to deal with, as well as encourage motorists to slow down by our presence/publicity generated.
Please support our efforts and don't be one of those caught - it would be slightly embarrassing.

A reminder to those who live in Winding Mill North and Winding Mill South that the service alleys need to be kept clear for emergency service access (fire brigade). After the enormous effort put in by residents on 15 August, we hope that nobody will leave rubbish that needs clearing away again. Thanks for your co-operation.

A big 'thank you' to everybody who took part in clearing the service alley-way for Winding Mill North and Winding Mill South. We filled numerous green wheelie bins and a skip full of rubbish. In addition, the hedges and bushes of the Winding Mill South car park got a trim, in order to make the area less secluded from the road. Photos of the day below:

PACT Meeting
The Committee attended the latest PACT meeting with officers from West Midlands Police on Wednesday, 18 February. Pleasingly, there was nothing to report for our estate and we were even complimented on being a good example of a well run scheme.
Local priorities decided by the meeting for the forthcoming period were speeding issues (primarily along Thorns Road, Lye by-pass and Church Road), inconsiderate parking (outside Thorns Primary School, on Thorns Road) and anti-social behaviour/dangerous dogs in Rufford Park (where dogs are alleged to be let loose by owners, whose own dogs have been attacked).
Due to a change in the areas officers cover, future meetings will be rotated between policing neighbourhoods, although all are welcome to attend any meeting, at any location. The next meeting will be on Monday, 16 March at 7.00pm, at Windmill Hill church (opposite The Chop House).
Future meetings will be:
16 March, Windmill Hill church (opposite The Chop House)
17 March, Sainsbury’s cafe, Withymoor
21 April, Bethel Chapel, Hill Street, Lye
18 May, Wollescote Community Centre
26 June, Lye Football Club
All are welcome, although a member of the Caledonia Residents Association will be present at every meeting to represent you.

In response to our request for more litter bins on the estate (see update of 26 January below), Dudley council have installed three bins in the requested locations. The thinking behind these is that dog mess can be bagged and put into either a 'dog mess' bin or a 'normal' litter bin, but general litter can only go into a 'normal' bin. Therefore, the locating of the bins allows for both types of litter to be catered for, which complement those already dotted around the estate.

In order to tackle the problem of litter and dog mess, we have surveyed the estate to see where the current bins are located. Having established this, we have asked Dudley council to site a further three general litter bins, in the locations shown on the map below.

Scam - be aware : A fellow resident has recently made us aware of a common ‘scam’. She advised they received a phone call from somebody claiming to be ‘the police’, saying her husband's bank card had been cloned and that someone had been arrested on the M6 for it. They then proceeded to ask for his bank details, to confirm that they had the correct person. Her husband didn't give any information but put the phone down as this a scam. Please be on your guard.
